MADIWALA REWAMP
Urban Design Project
Location - Madiwala, Bangalore
Area - 8.2 acres
Concept - Biophilic Design Approach
This project proposes a comprehensive redevelopment of the Madivala Market in Bangalore, grounded in the principles of biophilic design to foster deeper connections between built environments and nature. The proposal integrates urban, landscape, and architectural strategies, while aligning with performative design principles to address contemporary urban challenges.
Centered around the three core values of Sustainability, Nature, and Health, the design responds to post-pandemic public health needs by reimagining traditional market systems through smart design interventions. By incorporating mass-void relationships, natural ventilation, and green corridors, the project enhances environmental performance while ensuring visual and spatial connectivity.
Key elements include:
Smart city features such as intelligent street lighting, traffic and waste management, public safety systems, and green infrastructure.
Layered open spaces that decongest foot traffic and promote wellness.
A multi-level spatial hierarchy that enhances daylight penetration, public interaction, and passive cooling.
Through this holistic and responsive approach, the project envisions a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient urban marketplace that not only elevates user experience but also contributes to the city's long-term ecological and infrastructural health.
